The end is the beginning and the beginning is the ending. Moffat's compulsion for wibbley wobbley timey whiney story line goes deep here. We find out that River knows the Doctor's real name, which he can only say at one time, which we're assume is his wedding. And at the end, River dies, sacrificing herself to save the Doctor. This means the Doctor will always know how and when she dies. This will get played out in great details for years to come.
Donna's virtual life in the computer is equally heart breaking as she finds a husband, has two children, and has an idyllic life only to have it ripped away as she is rescued back to reality. Again, Catherine delivers a stunning performance that breaks your heart. This is a two-ply prelude to both Donna finale and to River's future of days past. Bravo!
