227. (6.12) Closing Time

The Doctor knowing his end time is coming decides to go visit Craig from The Lodger last season. After a lot of serious episodes, this is a nice lighter, more comedic story. The return of the Cybermen and of the Cybermats are a nice treat. While they are the antagonists, they're very much in the background with the Doctor and Craig filling the story. Fanboy easter egg was new Cybermat, a classic favorite, brought back with some teeth that bite.

226. (6.11) The God Complex

This was an interesting story. Not typical in the least. It's a bit creepy and foretells of bad things to come and peoples inner horrors. The conceit at the end is clever and gives us the "ah ha" moment. The classic fan easter egg is the mention of the Nimons. The easter treat would have been to really bring them back them. The Doctor dropping off Amy and Rory seems a bit facilitated and fake.

225. (6.10) The Girl Who Waited

Amy Pond owns this story. Caught in some timey whiney scenario, there are two Amy's from two time zones and Rory has to choose which one lives. Rory, equally, owns this episode in what is a Doctor-lite story. After all of the emotional ups and downs of their relationship over the past 2 seasons, this really reinforces their relationship and their love for each other. This end is heart wrenching and a shining moment for Amy and Rory.

224. (6.9) Night Terrors

A little boy in a council estate is actually an alien with great mental powers that can turn people into creepy dolls. Typical Mark Gatiss story. After the big story of last episode, this is a nice, smaller, quieter story. And this Doctor seems to have a special rapore with little children, which is played to the hilt here. This very much was a stand alone story, which wasn't alluded to, doesn't have any references to any other plot lines, and doesn't foreshadow anything to come.

223. (6.8) Let's Kill Hitler

This was the best, most bonkers, wobbley, screwy episode of the season and I  loved every minute of it. Amy and Rory's "childhood" friend Mels was a fantastic breath of fresh air. High jacking the TARDIS to go kill Hitler was inspired. But the biggest surprise of the season is seeing the injured Mels regenerate into River Song! So the little girl from the end of the Day of the Moon regenerated into Mels, who was Amy & Rory's contemporary childhood friend, who is now River Song, their daughter. Bonkers! Of course her directive to kill the Doctor is executed with her usual flare. Her sacrifice of all her remaining regenerations to save the Doctor's life is is sad and heart-touching at the same moment. This truly is the best River Song episode and forms the biggest final piece of her story. And Hitler's still in the closet.

222. (6.7) A Good Man Goes to War

Amy's been held captive for more than 6 episodes, unbeknownst to her. Amy is also pregnant, really pregnant, and is in labor. And Rory's pissed off. He blows up Cyber Legions. He's gathering troops. He's on the war path. Francis Barber is stupendous as Madame Kovarian, best part of the whole thing. Moffat tosses in more fan wank and gratuitous use of his characters from the past season and a half. This episode boils down to the reveal that Amy and Rory's daughter Melody Pond will grow up to be River Song. Typical Moffat. While this isn't a two part story, the next episode is a good bookend to this one. One of the better episodes of the season and was a good mid-season cliffhanger.

221B. (6.6) The Almost People

There are two Doctors. Amy is rude to the Ganger Doctor. The other Gangers start an uprising and begin killing off their originals. And the place is burning down in acid while the TARDIS in inaccessible. The basic point of this whole story is introducing the concept of the Gangers and Amy's attitude toward them. The reveal of the closing moments that Amy is actually a Ganger and has been since before the season premiere was a little surprising and unexpected. Though this explains the mixed pregnancy results the TARDIS was giving. While I understand the needed build up to the reveal, I think they could have done it in one episode and used the other one for more build to either the real or for finding Amy.
