The Doctor must chose who will the Family of Blood kill- Joan Redfern or Martha. Martha saves the day but the Family continues a killing spree across town. With the fob watched recovered, the Doctor must choose between his human life with Joan or saving everyone as the Time Lord. Of course the Doctor returns to his former life but the pain of the choice on him and on Joan is shown in great sadness. We see the life that Doctor gave up with Joan, of family and children, a long life growing old, and dying. It is heart breaking to see what is lost and a stand out performance by David Tennant.
